When it comes to maximizing what you have, Jaimi from @jaimi.stewart knows how to make the best use out of your furniture. That's why she teamed up with AFW once again to present a clever way to transform accent tables into serving stations that will help with hosting dinner parties (or any party) this holiday season and beyond!

After shopping our best selection in occasional tables, Jaimi was able to transform a stylish stationary table into a festive multi-functional piece that won't overcrowd your space. Read on to get her take on this simple design project and tips on how to add space to your home.

Why use sofa tables when hosting you ask? One word: Space. Not only will you free up some counter space (everyone needs that while hosting!) but you will encourage your guests to mingle and get comfy. Get your food and drinks out of the kitchen or off the dining room table and set up various “venues” for your food and drinks!

I used two occasional tables we have in our home. One is the Murphy Sofa Table from AFW. Both pieces we use daily but for the purpose of hosting, I cleared them of their usual items and set them up for hosting. An occasional table turned beverage table can be as fancy or minimalistic as you’d like with limitless options. It can be a hot cocoa and coffee bar, a mimosa bar for brunch, or be solely for water just to free up some space in the kitchen. Think about what serves your guests best and go from there.

Dining Area Table

Our other occasional table is in our dining area. I chose to use this table in our dining area for finger foods and dessert. If you are looking for an affordable white accent table, you can try the Passages Light Console Table from AFW.

You can cover the top of your table with a sheet of brown craft paper. I often use brown craft paper when I host for a few reasons:

  1. It helps with clean up.
  2. You can write what the dishes are on the paper so guests can know exactly what is being served.
  3. It adds visual interest. This is a white table with white serveware...adding brown breaks up the white.
Centerpiece

I also have to point out this great centerpiece I found at AFW that is quite versatile. The base is iron and it holds six candles. I placed it on a wooden round and then added gourds to the center. The possibilities of how to use this centerpiece are really endless.

At your next holiday gathering, get the food and drinks out of the kitchen and into the rest of your house! Free up your counter space, get your guests to mingle, and you’ll be surprised how well your non-traditional dining furniture can work when it comes to serving food and drinks!
