We're Totally Crushing Over BLUE
We're Totally Crushing Over BLUE

The color blue is trending right now—and for good reason. This easy-on-the-eyes color is gender neutral, promotes a sense of calmness and relaxation, and is incredibly versatile. What's even better is that it works with the colors you already have in your home, so incorporating this trend into your decor is a breeze.

A Splash of Color

If you want to add some blue to a space but don't want to commit to (or have the budget for) a large piece, home decor items are a great place to start. They're easy to switch up and work in every room in your home. A throw pillow introduces color and can be used in almost any room, a blue rug can ground a space in soothing blue, and a vase adds the perfect pop of blue to any space.

Azure Accents

An accent piece is a great way to incorporate blue into your decor. A deep blue accent chair with nail head trim will add a touch of sophistication to a space, while a sea foam blue accent chest can contribute to a soothing ambiance. A blue and white geometric pattern on an accent chair will lend a touch of crisp, modern style to a space.

Big Blue Impact

If you want to dive into the deep end and make a bold style statement, there's no better way to do so than with a large blue piece, like a sofa or bed. A blue mid-century modern sofa creates a retro-chic vibe in a space, a blue-grey and espresso bed gives a bedroom a unique modern-meets-rustic twist, and a navy leather sofa with nail head trim adds a touch of class to a room.

A Sea of Shades

One of the great things about working blue into your decor is that there's a blue for every room and every mood, from pale periwinkles and barely-there blues to stunning sapphires and captivating cobalts. A pale blue throw can lend a soothing air to a bedroom, a parsons chair in a velvety ocean blue adds a designer touch to a dining room, and a dark slate blue sofa creates the perfect laid back (yet sophisticated) design in a living room.

While it can be easy to overlook, your entryway is pretty important. It's the first thing guests see when they walk into your home and it's the last thing you pass by on the way out the door—so it needs to be both stylish and functional.

American Furniture Warehouse (AFW) is the proud recipient of ColoradoBiz Magazine's 2016 Top Company Award in the Consumer category. On August 25th, 2016, founder and CEO Jake Jabs accepted the award at ColoradoBiz Magazine's ceremony, attributing AFW's success to "[running] mean and lean" and "[selling] quality furniture for less." The company has earned accolades throughout its 41 years in business, and has expanded beyond its Rocky Mountain roots to open stores in Arizona. "One of the reasons we went to Arizona was that we knew many people went there from here [Colorado]," says Jabs. "Customers in Arizona love us because of our great prices, huge selection and no high-pressure selling."

ColoradoBiz Magazine partners with Deloitte, along with a panel of community representatives, to select Top Company winners and finalists in 11 categories. Enterprises are rigorously judged on "financial performance or other relevant metric, achievement in one or more operational aspect of their business, and community involvement," according to the ColoradoBiz Magazine website.

Along with commercial success, AFW leads in charitable donations, giving $3 million to organizations in 2015 alone. Notably active in the community, Jabs regularly performs at TAPS benefits and for children and their families at the Easter Seals of Colorado. He most recently appeared at the annual Palisade Peach Festival, of which AFW was a title sponsor.

We’ve been huge fans of Little Vintage Nest ever since Sarah, the brains behind the blog, tagged two AFW chairs in an Instagram post last year. Her wildly successful IG feed features snapshots of a vintage-inspired home teeming with neutral tones, burlap textures, and rustic finishes. Sarah’s on-trend style is simple and inspiring; when she suggested a collaboration between AFW and Little Vintage Nest, we immediately agreed. Take a peek into Sarah’s charming basement after the jump, and shop the AFW products she used right here:

Simple & Cozy Basement Tour

(Excerpt from original blog post on Little Vintage Nest)

We’ve been in this home for almost a year now and in that time I have managed to do almost nothing in our basement. Despite being the place we spend most of our time as a family, the basement has always been at the end of the priority list–behind things like bathroom makeovers, shiplap, excessive coffee drinking, etc. But the time has come. Yep, I have finally spruced this area up, we got a new super cozy chair, and it’s starting to feel complete. I’m so excited to share it with you fabulous people today. Welcome to our basement!

Ok, let me rave about our new giant chair for a hot minute. We recently got this from American Furniture Warehouse and I’m pretty much obsessed with it. It fits perfectly in this space and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Previously in this spot we had a really old, and rather ugly brown couch. So this new chair brightens up this area so well. I love, love, love it. I could curl up here with a good book and stay all day long. This is AFW’s Milan Beige Chair, you can get it here.

Kitchen and dining room reveals are all the rage these days. As the primary gathering places for our loved ones, these rooms hold special meaning and deserve the TLC that many bloggers bestow upon them. From complete transformations to minor adjustments, designers and DIY-ers are not only improving their own homes but also taking readers along for the ride.

Rachel is one such blogger who recently revamped her kitchen and dining areas using a neutral color palette while mixing natural wood pieces with pristine white accompaniments. Hers is a home of farmhouse fairytales and we are so excited to share this stunning space with you. Read an excerpt from Rachel’s blog below — featuring our beautiful Danimore Oval Dining Table — and then click to see the entire post on her blog, Rachel Elizabeth Creates (a hub of inspiration in and of itself). Kitchen and Dining Reveal

(Excerpt from original blog post by Rachel Elizabeth)

First let me say how unbelievably blessed I feel every single time I walk into this kitchen. I could never have dreamed I would get to cook for my sweet family of 5 in this space each day. I come from humble beginnings so for me this house is a really big deal. To my hardworking husband and my God that brought us here, I am so so grateful. The best part is, how easy it makes caring for and feeding my family. I love sitting around our big table and sturdy comfy chairs each night for dinner together. wm15[1]

This beautiful dining table is from American Furniture Warehouse and can be found here. The chairs were a re-furb project I found on craiglist. In great condition but with just a little wear and tear and your typical stains so I re-covered and painted in my go-to white. I used Polar Bear by Behr in a flat finish and sealed with Minwax’s Polyacrylic in matte.

Ah, summer. The perfect time of year to relax, bask in the warm sun…and attend a TON of weddings. Affectionately dubbed “wedding season,” roughly 40% of weddings in the U.S. occur during the summer months, with June nabbing “most popular month to marry.”

Why do we sell furniture?

Furniture brings families and friends together. It provides seating for your dinner parties and for your game nights. It gives you a good night’s sleep. New furniture additions spruce up forgotten corners of your home and offer an outlet for expressing your personality, values, and creativity.

We gain a unique perspective on furniture from our customers, many of whom turn to social media to share their favorite purchases with us. Bloggers take furniture buying and home decorating to another level, with in-depth writing about the product selection process and how to integrate new pieces with older furnishings and décor. One of our favorite bloggers, Shayna Orrino, recently showcased such a makeover on The Wood Grain Cottage. Read an excerpt from her article below and then pop over to her blog for the full post (featuring our Jorwyn Two-Tone Side Chair!). We promise it’ll leave you feeling inspired – and maybe even ready to kickoff your own room transformation!

New Breakfast Nook Chairs

Last year, I moved in our outdoor patio chairs into the breakfast nook, and I loved their pop of white, while adding a modern twist to our room. But since spring is in full swing, and I’m getting ready to pull out the patio furniture, our white chairs went back outside. I originally bought them for the patio, and I love how they look (and hold up outside).

With that said, I was looking for new breakfast nook chairs. Don’t get me wrong, I really like our table and chairs. The table is a great size, and it was one of my very first purchases when I moved out of my childhood home. For a while though, I’ve felt it was a little bit too “orange”, and I knew it was time to update.

I found them at American Furniture Warehouse, which is located in Colorado and Arizona (but they ship online). I froze as soon as I saw them. Everything about them was right… the mix of dark walnut stain, black metal and that subtle modern twist I’ve been loving and slowly incorporating into the house.
